  Award ceremony to recognize service, inclusive excellence

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion's "The Pillars: Recognition of Service and Inclusive Excellence" Awards Presentation is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, in the student union conference center.

UTHSC otolaryngology chair to discuss surgery, stenosis

Boyd Gillespie, professor and chair of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, will present “Gland-Preserving Salivary Surgery: Are Scopes Needed?” at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, in the 5 East Conference Room (Suite H500), and "Current Techniques for Airway Stenosis" 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in.the 5 East Conference Room (Suite H500).

Dr. Anita Navarro, chief of staff of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, will give the UMMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science workshop, "Leadership and Careers: Examining Intersections Through Personal Narratives," from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in second-floor conference rooms A-D in the student union.

Scripps professor to discuss opioid receptor therapy

Dr. Laura Bohn, professor of molecular medicine and professor of neuroscience at the Scripps Research Institute, Jupiter, Florida, will give the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series presentation, "Therapeutic Implications of Biased Agonism at Opioid Receptors," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, in classroom 3A (room N318 on the North Wing).

Physiology faculty to describe UCP3's cardiac injury role

Dr. Romain Harmancey, assistant professor of physiology and biophysics and associate director of cardiac metabolism research in the Mississippi Center for Heart Research, will give the Department of Physiology presentation, "Role of UCP3 in Cardiac Protection from Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Wisconsin professor to measure eicosanoid drug prospects

Imig, professor of pharmacology and toxicology and director of the Drug Discovery Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, will give the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology seminar, "Eicosanoid Drugs: Prospects for Treating Human Diseases," at noon on Monday, Jan. 28, in room 6A.

Mayo Clinic well-being director to describe culture creation

Beth Riley, director of employee well-being and director of the Dan Abraham Health Living Center at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, will give the UMMC Office of Wellbeing-sponsored presentation, "Creating a Culture of Well-being at the Mayo Clinic," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in lecture hall 122 of the medical education building.

Riley will provide information on the history of the program at the Mayo Clinic; core programs and services; and how they are measuring the impact on the culture.
